Candy Stripe is the flower people stop for at our Winter Park farmers-market table — no two blooms are striped quite alike, with red streaks brushed over white petals that warm to yellow-orange at the throat. It blooms in heavy clusters from April through November, and the sweet scent carries several feet on a still evening. It is also one of the more forgiving varieties to start: a well-callused cutting typically roots in 4–8 weeks of warm weather. Grow it in a container in zones 9 and below so it can winter indoors; in zones 10–11 it settles into the ground and gets better every year.
